Antoine Gerbel, Diabolus in Musica
Description:
An example such as Machaut's "Notre-Dame Mass," in which a single composer composed the entire text of the Mass in multiple voices, is very rare in the 14th century. The eight-member ensemble of Diabolus in Musica, consisting of only male voices from tenors to basses, is supported by the thick sound of the basses, and the music is more than enough to give us the pleasure of being enveloped in very beautiful harmony with a certain wildness of medieval music at the bottom. Three pieces (8, 10, and 15) other than Machaut's are also included. Naxos Japan
