The Art of the Mandolin is the first album Avi Avital has recorded exclusively for mandolin. Avi plays the best repertoire for mandolin available today and shows us the full range of expressive possibilities of this instrument. The works range from Vivaldi's two concertos for mandolin, through Beethoven's rarely performed E-flat major Adagio, to contemporary works commissioned by Avi himself in the last few years, by a wide variety of composers. This project represents a return to the core of the instrument, after a long, long journey that took Avi and the mandolin through the realms of violin, harpsichord, and flute. Returning to its rightful place, the project showcases works written for the mandolin. Performing with the Venice Baroque Orchestra, Annelene Lenaerts on harp, Sean Sibe on guitar, Itzhar Kalshon on harpsichord, Ophira Zakai on theorbo, and others. Universal Music/IMS
